Nightmares

Terror gripped Hermione as she slept, beads of sweat trickled down her face as she thrashed violently in her bed. She struggled to kick the covers off as the nightmare tightened its grip on her and pulled her deeper under. Words spilt from her lips as she clawed at and pleaded with her phantom attacker. “No, please,” she begged, “I can’t. Please, not him,” she repeated the words over and over.

“Hermione,” she heard a voice call. She tried desperately to cling to the voice as it continued, “Hermione, come on, baby. Wake up.”

“AHH!” Hermione screamed as she bolted upright in her bed, her eyes wild and unfocused. She looked around her bedroom as the last vestiges of her nightmare slipped away. Her eyes landed on a familiar face and she gave him a weak smile as she slowly calmed down.

“Are you okay?” he asked, moving closer to her.

“I’m fine,” Hermione replied weakly, her heart racing. She wrapped her arms around her husband, resting her head against his shoulder.

“Was it the same nightmare again?” he asked.

“Yes,” Hermione whimpered.

“I’m all right, Hermione. I didn’t die in the Triwizard Tournament,” Cedric sighed, stroking his wife’s hair.

“I know, but the dreams, they feel so real,” Hermione said. Closing her eyes, she added, “And that’s not even the worst part.”

“My death isn’t the worst part of your nightmare? I’m hurt,” Cedric teased.

“That part is awful, and I hate seeing it, but it’s what comes after you die that really scares me,” Hermione admitted.

“Voldemort’s returning?” Cedric asked, hating the look of horror in his wife’s eyes.

“No, well, that’s terrible, too, but after that I… I…” Hermione paused, shuddering as she remembered the nightmare.

“Hermione, what is it?” Cedric asked. “You know you can tell me,” he coaxed gently.

Taking a deep breath, she lifted her head and stared Cedric in the eyes, “I marry Ron,” she cried.

Cedric couldn’t help but laugh. Cupping Hermione’s face, he laid a gentle kiss on her lips. “I promise you, baby, that is one nightmare that will never come true,” he told her before claiming her lips again in a deeper kiss. Laying her back down on the bed, he proceeded to make her forget all about her nightmare as he worshipped her body until the sun rose.
